The crust of the earth is made up of rocks. Rocks can be formed when magna cools and turn into a solid (igneous rocks), by breaking up in small pieces (sedimentary rocks) or by subjecting to high pressure and high temperature (metamorphic rocks).

Minerals can be described by their physical properties. In this app we use the most common distinguishing characteristics : crystal structure and habit, lustre, streak, cleavage and fracture
